COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's University's Collin Trout '20 (Cloquet, Minn.) and sophomore Maguire Petersen (Hutchinson, Minn.), and the rest of the 2020 Johnnie track and field team received U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honors on Thursday, July 16.

The honor was the second consecutive for Trout, who graduated in May with a 3.86 GPA in biochemistry (pre-pharmacy emphasis). Petersen is a two-sport student-athlete (football) and a biology major with a 3.91 GPA.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met either of the following athletic standards: he must have qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships or finished the regular season ranked in the national top 50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 35 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.

The USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honor is the 12th consecutive for SJU. A total of 82 Johnnies combined for a cumulative team GPA of 3.36. To qualify as an USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, all members of the roster must combine for a cumulative GPA of 3.1 or better.

Both Trout and Petersen were named 2020 USTFCCCA All-Central Region. The honor was the fourth for Trout (three indoor and one outdoor), who qualified for nationals in the triple jump with a season-best leap of 14.52 meters. The mark was good for 13th nationally. He earned his fourth All-MIAC honor (top three individually, champion relay) in the event, third indoors, with a second-place finish (14.30 meters) at the conference meet.

Petersen tied for fifth in Division III with a school record, 2.10 meters, in the high jump. He finished second at the MIAC Championships with a mark of 2.01 meters.

The Johnnies hosted the 2020 MIAC Indoor Championships and finished fourth. SJU qualified a program-record five student-athletes, all in individual events, for the NCAA Indoor Championships before the meet was cancelled. COVID-19 also cancelled the outdoor season, which barred SJU from defending its NCAA Division III title in the 4x100-meter relay.
