COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's won its 10-team CSB+SJU Invitational on Thursday, April 16, in Clemens Stadium.
SJU won six events with 28 top-six performances for 194 points and the meet title, followed by Bethel (175), Division II Southwest Minnesota State (136) and Concordia-Moorhead (88).
The Johnnies also recorded NCAA Division III top-30 marks/times in three events.
Sophomore
Anthony Sletta (St. James, Minn.) took first in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 7.24 meters, which ranks first in the MIAC by a margin of 0.36 meters and is tied for 10th in NCAA Division III. He was also fourth in the triple jump (12.76 meters).
Senior
Mitchell Degen (Brainerd, Minn.) won the javelin with a throw of 58.13 meters, his second-best toss of the season. Freshman
Holden Dvorak (Princeton, Minn./Spectrum) was third (49.06 meters).
SJU's 4x100-meter relay (Jones, Ferrante, D. Guth, Murnan) crossed the line first with a time of 41.21 seconds, good for first in the MIAC and 12th in Division III.
The 4x400-meter relay (McCoy, Molenkamp, St. Peter, Stencel) took third in 3:29.82, 0:00.72 behind SMSU in second (3:29.10).
SJU recorded the top-three times in the 800 meters with a photo finish, led by junior
Max McCoy (Bennington, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) in 1:56.03. Senior
Nick St. Peter (Maple Grove, Minn.) followed in second (1:56.10) and junior
Cole Stencel (Mapleton, Minn./Maple River) was third (1:56.27)
Senior
Jacob Malecha (Lonsdale, Minn./New Prague) won the steeplechase in 9:38.88.
Connor Dow finished fourth with a personal-best 11:03.30.
Sophomore
Adam Marable (Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) won the 5,000 meters (16:29.01) and freshman
Ian Mills (Glenwood, Minn./Minnewaska Area) was behind him in third (16:55.31).
Sophomore
Grady Minnerath (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) took second in the shot put with a season-best toss of 16.09 meters. He is third in the MIAC behind a pair of All-Americans and 28th in DIII. He also led SJU in the discus with a sixth-place mark of 43.58 meters.
Freshman
Alex Chirhart (St. Cloud, Minn./Rocori) claimed second in the pole vault (4.25 meters) and classmate
Aiden Jones (Pierz, Minn.) was third in the 100-meter dash (11.17).
The Johnnies travel to Minneapolis for Division I Minnesota's Gary Wilson Invitational at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 22.
