Johnnie Hockey Blanks St. Thomas 4-0 for Weekend Split

Box Score

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. - Saint John's hockey earned a weekend split with a 4-0 shutout of St. Thomas on Saturday, Feb. 8, in Mendota Heights.

Senior goaltender Andrew Lindgren (Minneapolis, Minn.) made 42 saves for his first shutout of the season and fifth of his career for the Johnnies (8-8-5, 5-3-4 MIAC).

SJU has now scored exactly four goals in each of their last five wins against St. Thomas (9-8-3, 6-5-1 MIAC), including a pair of 4-1 victories last season. The shutout was the third in the last four games for the Johnnies, who are now 4-1-1 in their last six trips to St. Thomas Ice Arena.

The Johnnies jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a 16-7 shot advantage in the first period. Junior forward Tanner Dufault (Kasson, Minn.) gave SJU a quick 1-0 lead with his second goal of the season 3:26 into the game.

Senior forward Kyle Wagner (St. Francis, Minn.) found freshman forward Auggie Moore (Edina, Minn.) alone in front for a power-play goal, Moore's second tally of the weekend and seventh of the season, with 53 seconds left in the opening frame. The point was the 20th of the season for Wagner.

The Johnnies chased UST goaltender Henry Baribeau from the game when freshman forward Dan Wieber (St. Joseph, Minn.) made it 3-0 on his fifth goal of the season with 12:44 left in the second period.

Sophomore forward Russell Harren (Wasilla, Alaska) ended the scoring with his second career goal with 3:05 to play in regulation.

The Johnnies travel to face Gustavus Adolphus for a 7:05 p.m. puck-drop on Friday, Feb. 14, in St. Peter.
