ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John's hockey returned to the win column with a 4-0 shutout of St. Olaf on Thursday, Jan. 30, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
Junior goaltender
Mac Berglove (Elk River, Minn.) made 31 saves to record his second shutout of the season and third of his career. He is now 2-0-1 with a 1.33 GAA and a .962 save percentage (127 saves) in his last four games (224:49).
Freshman forward
Dan Wieber (St. Joseph, Minn.) scored a pair of goals and junior forward
Ryan Kero (Hermantown, Minn.) tallied two assists as 10 different Johnnies recorded a point in the victory.
Sophomore forward
Davis Kirkendall (Hamel, Minn.) opened the scoring for SJU (6-7-5, 3-2-4 MIAC) with his seventh goal of the season 8:05 into the game and freshman defenseman
Peter Tabor (Edina, Minn.) made it 2-0 with a power-play goal, his third tally of the season, with 6:36 left in the opening frame.
Wieber scored his first goal of the night, on a nifty one-timer to the far post from classmate
Auggie Moore (Edina, Minn.), 5:05 into the second period and ended the game's scoring with his fourth goal of the season, on the power play, at the 16:17 mark of the third.
SJU went 2-for-4 on the power play and out-shot St. Olaf (3-14-1, 1-7-1 MIAC) 34-31, thanks to a 12-7 advantage in the third period.
The two teams wrap up the weekend series at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, in Northfield.
