Box Score
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's University senior forward
Ben Becker (Richfield, Minn./Holy Angels) scored his second collegiate hat trick in the Johnnies' 5-2 non-conference win at Northwestern on a rainy Saturday night, Sept. 7, in Roseville.
Becker scored the first of his three goals just before halftime (43:47 mark) to give SJU (3-0-0 overall) a 2-1 lead and broke the game open with tallies in the 77th and 81st minutes. He now has a point in each game this season for a total of 10 (4g/2a) and led the Johnnies in goals (7), game-winning goals (3) and points (15) last fall.
Like Becker, senior forward
Kagan Foster (Alexandria, Minn.) continued his goal-scoring ways by giving the Johnnies a quick 1-0 lead with this third goal in as many games 2:10 into the match.
The Eagles (0-4-0 overall), however, answered 39 seconds later to tie the game at 1-1.
Junior midfielder
Paul Wadsworth (Tacoma, Wash./Stadium) made it 3-1 in the 48th minute and had another goal disallowed due to offsides five minutes later. Unfortunately for SJU, Northwestern scored 12 seconds after that on a scramble off the ensuing free kick.
Senior goalkeeper
Nicholas French (Waterford, Wis.) made two saves to improve to 2-0 on the year, and earn his 15th career win, as SJU out-shot UNW 17-7 (10-4 on goal).
The Johnnies play host to Loras (Iowa) for a 5 p.m., neutral-site match on Friday, Sept. 13, at the CSB Soccer Field in St. Joseph.
