Box Score

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – No. 16 Loras (Iowa) took advantage of two free kicks for a 2-0 non-conference win over Saint John's on Friday, Sept. 13, at the CSB Soccer Field in St. Joseph.

Tigrio Huerta gave Loras (5-0-1 overall) a quick 1-0 lead 6:10 into the game. Raudel Fierro took a free kick from just outside the right corner of the box and Huerta connected on the lob for a one-timer to the back of the net for his team-leading fourth goal of the year.

Patrick Clancy padded the Duhawks' lead on a header off a 40-yard free kick from Mark Histed in the 59th minute.

Junior midfielder Paul Wadsworth (Tacoma, Wash./Stadium) nearly cut the Johnnies' deficit in half with 6:15 remaining, but goalkeeper Jesse Buffington made a sprawling save on the penalty kick to preserve the shutout. Buffington played the second half and made four saves as SJU posted an 8-6 shot advantage in the final 45 minutes.

Loras out-shot the Johnnies 16-11 (9-4 on goal) overall and recorded a 10-6 edge in corner kicks. Ball possession was even at 50 percent for each team.

The Johnnies hit the road to face Concordia for the MIAC opener at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, in Moorhead.
