2019-20 SJU Hockey Schedule
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's University hockey coach
Doug Schueller announced the Johnnies' 2019-20 schedule on Monday, Aug. 5.
A repeat of last year's schedule, Johnnie hockey will play eight of its 12 home games in the first six weeks of the 2019-20 season, including two at the Municipal Athletic Complex (MAC). Only four home games are scheduled after Dec. 15.
The other 10 home games will be played at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center at St. Cloud State University and will include two Tuesday night, one Thursday night and two Sunday afternoon contests.
With the 10-year run of the non-conference MIAC Showcase ending last season, SJU starts the 2019-20 campaign with a non-conference game Nov. 2 at Wisconsin-Eau Claire, followed by the MIAC-opening series (home opener Nov. 8) against Bethel.
The Johnnies begin a seven-game homestand with a pair of games at the MAC against the defending NCAA Division III champions, Wisconsin-Stevens Point (Nov. 15), and Wisconsin-Stout (Nov. 16). The home stretch includes a pair of league games against Concordia-Moorhead (Nov. 23-24), a non-conference tilt with St. Scholastica Nov. 26 (the Tuesday before Thanksgiving), a split-series contest with Hamline Dec. 10 and then wraps with another non-conference game Dec. 15 against Concordia (Wis.).
SJU returns to action after the holidays with a trip to Boston to face Hobart (N.Y.) Jan. 4 and either Nichols (Mass.) or Bryn Athyn (Pa.) Jan. 5, depending on Jan. 4's results. The team ventures to Wisconsin the following weekend, Jan. 10-11, to take on Wisconsin-Superior and Northland (Wis.), respectively, and completes the conference series with Hamline Jan. 17 in St. Paul.
The Johnnies complete conference play with five consecutive weekend series to end the season: Jan. 24-25 against Augsburg (home on Jan. 25); Jan. 30-31 vs. St. Olaf (home on Thursday, Jan. 30); Feb. 7-8 vs. St. Thomas (home on Feb. 7); Feb. 14-15 vs. Gustavus Adolphus (Senior Night Feb. 15) and Feb. 21-22 at Saint Mary's.
Aside from the unknown opponent Jan. 5, the other eight non-conference opponents combined for a 122-82-17 (.590) record last season.
The Johnnies went 4-1-2 over their final seven conference games to finish second in the MIAC for the second consecutive season with a 9-4-3 conference record (12-10-5 overall) in 2018-19. SJU made its sixth trip to the MIAC Playoffs in the last eight years and fell to Augsburg in the MIAC Championship game, 2-1 in four overtimes.
