RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Saint John's baseball ended its 2019 season with a 7-3 loss to Buena Vista (Iowa) at the NCAA Regional on Saturday, May 18, on the campus of Concordia University-Chicago in River Forest, Ill.
Buena Vista (26-18 overall) broke open a 3-3 tie with four runs on five hits, including four consecutive to start the frame, in the bottom of the seventh inning.
SJU (32-14 overall) tied the game with three two-out runs in the top of the sixth inning. Junior right fielder

Joey Stock (Cold Spring, Minn./Saint John's Prep) was hit by a pitch with one out. A fielder's choice off the bat of junior third baseman
Jack Schramel (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) put runners on the corners before senior left fielder
Jack Wingerd (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) was plunked to load the bases. Junior first baseman
Aaron Kloeppner (Dayton, Minn./Champlin Park) coaxed a full-count walk to bring in the first run before senior second baseman
Thomas Meland (Northfield, Minn.) jumped on the first pitch for a two-run single to the right-center gap.
Meland previously ended Nick Henrichs' no-hit attempt with a one-out single in the top of the fifth inning and finished with two of the Johnnies' four hits.
The Beavers gained a 2-0 lead on a two-out, two run double in the fourth inning and tacked on another with back-to-back doubles in the fifth.

The Johnnies batted 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position, 2-for-15 with runners on base and 2-for-11 with two outs in the loss.
SJU batted only .176 (12-for-68), including .136 (3-for-22) with two outs, with one extra-base hit in the two NCAA Regional games. The Johnnies entered the postseason batting .297 overall, .309 with runners on base and .282 with two outs.
