SJU Trounces St. Thomas on the Tennis Court, 8-1

SARTELL, Minn. - Saint John's tennis extended its win streak to four with an 8-1 victory over St. Thomas on Sunday, April 14, at Sta-Fit in Sartell.

SJU (8-7, 5-2 MIAC) cruised through the three doubles matches and won four of its five singles matches in straight sets.

Senior Ryan Meger (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi) won his fifth straight match Saturday at No. 3 (6-2, 6-4), while sophomore Thomas Gillach (No. 2; Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes), junior Jess Hansen (No. 6; Dawson, Minn./Dawson-Boyd) and senior Hunter Krebsbach (No. 5; St. Paul, Minn./Mounds View) each won their fourth in a row.

Gillach and classmate Nate Jordre (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) moved to 9-0 at No. 1 doubles (10-1 overall, 5-0 MIAC) with a win Sunday (8-1), while Meger and senior Jonah Punnoose (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) are now 8-1 (5-0 MIAC) at No. 2 thanks to an 8-3 victory.

The Tommies (8-6, 4-3 MIAC) won their lone match via the super-breaker at No. 4 singles (1-6, 6-4, 11-9).

The Johnnies wrap up their six-match homestand in two weeks (Friday, April 26) against Hamline at the Chang Tennis Complex in Collegeville.
