Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score

FT. MYERS, Fla. - Saint John's baseball improved to 8-0 with another doubleheader sweep, 13-2 and 2-1, over Elms (Mass.) on Thursday, March 7, in Ft. Myers, Fla.

The Johnnies erased a 2-0 deficit with 13 runs in the top of the sixth inning to take game one and won game two with a pinch-hit, walk-off double from senior Tommy Auger (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral). Junior pinch-hitter Joey Stock (Cold Spring, Minn./Saint John's Prep) gave the Johnnies a thrilling 10-7 win over Thiel (Pa.) with a two-out, three-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning in yesterday's first scheduled nine-inning game.

SJU scored the 13 runs in game one's sixth inning thanks to 11 hits and four errors by the Blazers (2-7 overall).

Freshman Nathan Brandecker (South St. Paul, Minn.) pitched five strong innings in relief of senior Lance Kilde (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong), allowing two hits with four strikeouts, to earn his first collegiate victory.

SJU loaded the bases with nobody out in the third inning of game two but mustered only one run, thanks to junior first baseman Aaron Kloeppner's (Dayton, Minn./Champlin Park) sacrifice fly. The Blazers strung together a walk and back-to-back singles off freshman Teddy Tauer (Red Wing, Minn.), who made his first collegiate start Thursday, in the top of the sixth inning. Tauer had a no-hitter through 5.1 innings and finished with six strikeouts.

Senior left fielder Jack Wingerd (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) started the bottom half of the seventh inning with a single but was thrown out at second base on a fielder's choice off the bat of senior catcher Caleb Reese (Otsego, Minn./Rogers) in the next at-bat. Senior Alex Budde (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) pinch ran for Reese and scored on Auger's double down the left-field line.

Senior Bennett Wiggins (St. Anthony, Minn.) struck out four in 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to improve to 2-0 on the young season.

Junior right fielder Wyatt Ulrich (Indus, Minn./International Falls) led SJU with four hits (4-for-8) on the day, while Auger finished 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI. Wingerd and junior third baseman Jack Schramel (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) collected three hits apiece.

SJU batted .350 (21-for-60) on the day, including an impressive .520 (13-for-25) with runners in scoring position.

The Johnnies wrap up their spring-break trip with a 9 a.m., 9-inning game against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (N.Y.) on Friday, March 8, at Terry Park.
