TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 20 Saint John's baseball ended its four-day trip with a 5-4 loss to Buena Vista (Iowa) on Tuesday, March 19, in Tucson, Ariz.
The Johnnies (13-3 overall) moved up 13 spots to No. 20 in the latest American Baseball Coaches' Association (ABCA)/Collegiate Baseball poll released earlier in the day.
SJU surrendered 15 hits and batted .143 (2-for-14) with runners in scoring position, leaving 12 men on base.
The Beavers (6-7 overall) registered two runs in both the second and third innings off freshman
Nathan Brandecker (South St. Paul, Minn.), who made his first collegiate start and suffered the loss.
Senior center fielder
Max Jackson (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) led off the third inning with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly from junior designated hitter
Joey Stock (Cold Spring, Minn./Saint John's Prep).
A leadoff double in the fourth inning came around to score for BVU off sophomore
Nick Penick (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) and SJU matched the run on an RBI groundout from junior

Junior third baseman
Jack Schramel (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) cut the Johnnies' deficit to one with a two-run double in the seventh inning. He batted .385 (10-for-26) with 12 RBI, five runs scored and four doubles in the trip's seven games (5-2 record).
Senior left fielder
Jack Wingerd (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) led SJU Tuesday at the plate with three hits, including his team-leading seventh double of the season, and two RBI. He batted .500 (12-for-24) with 10 RBI, eight runs scored and four doubles on the trip.
Junior
Taylor Fourre (Albany, Minn.) allowed five hits in three scoreless innings of relief, while senior
Jake Dickmeyer (Woodbury, Minn.) made his first relief appearance of the season and clocked two hitless innings. He struck out four, including the side in the ninth inning.
The Johnnies continue non-conference action with three nine-inning games at Luther this Saturday and Sunday, March 23-24, in Decorah, Iowa. The two teams are scheduled to play a noon doubleheader Saturday, followed by a single, nine-inning contest Sunday.
