MIAC Release

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Five Saint John's University basketball student-athletes received All-MIAC honors on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

Senior guard David Stokman (Maple Lake, Minn.) was named to the five-man All-MIAC first team, junior post Lucas Walford (Elko, Minn./New Prague) was named to the All-MIAC second team, and junior wing Jubie Alade (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) and sophomore post Zach Hanson (New Prague, Minn.) were named to the All-MIAC third team. Walford earned MIAC All-Defensive Team honors for the second consecutive season and freshman guard Colton Codute (Wayzata, Minn./Orono) was named to the MIAC All-First Year Team. Senior post Ben Hartmann (Albany, Minn.) was a member of the MIAC All-Sportsmanship team.

The All-MIAC first-team honor is the second for Stokman, who led the MIAC in three-pointers (62), finished second in free-throw percentage (.866, 58-for-67) and sixth in scoring (16.0 ppg.) in conference play. He is currently fifth in school history with 1,472 career points, eight behind Bill Sexton '55 in fourth, thanks to his team-leading 15.4 points per game in 27 contests this season. He has seven games of 20 or more points this season (24 in his career) and also leads the team in assists (93) and steals (37). His 82 three-pointers are tied with Kevin Buth '03 (2003) for the single-season school record, while his 316 career assists are good for fifth in SJU history. Stokman already owns SJU's record for career three-pointers with 262.

Walford made an impact on both ends of the court this season as he led the MIAC in shooting percentage (.743), offensive rebounds (66) and blocks (34) in league play. He currently leads NCAA Division III in shooting percentage (.722) and has 11 double-doubles this season (15 career). Walford is the program's all-time leader in blocks with 91.

The 2017-18 MIAC Sixth Man of the Year, Alade averaged 12.6 points, 3.3 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game in conference play. He hit 80 percent of his free throws (32-for-40) and shot 49.8 percent (100-for-201) from the field in 20 conference games. Alade has two double-doubles and two 20-point games this season (7 career).

Hanson was one of four Johnnies to average 10-plus points in conference play (10.9 ppg.) to go along with 4.6 rebounds in 20 games played. Hanson shot 60.5 percent (89-for-147) from the field and scored a career-high 22 points Feb. 13 in the 94-75 win over St. Thomas. He picked up his first collegiate double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds Jan. 26 in the 74-62 win at Hamline.

Codute is the third Johnnie in the last four years to be named to the MIAC All-Rookie Team, joining Alade (2016-17) and Stokman (2015-16). He appeared in 19 conference games and averaged 5.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists in nearly 20 minutes per game off the bench. Codute shot 47.2 percent overall (34-for-72), including 46.5 percent from three-point range (20-for-43), and sunk 13 of 15 free-throw attempts.

Hartmann has appeared in 16 games for SJU this season and is a 50-percent shooter (13-for-26) from the field.

SJU ended the conference schedule as the MIAC leader in five statistical categories in league play: shooting percentage (.551), three-point percentage (.403), rebounding (38.8 rpg.) and blocks (4.5 bpg.). The first-place finish was the third consecutive in the two shooting percentages, while the rebounding crown was SJU's second in a row.

The Johnnies currently lead the 416 NCAA Division III teams in both rebound margin (+13.3 rpg.) and shooting percentage (.542), are second in scoring margin (+19.2 ppg.) and three-point percentage (.415), and ninth in shooting percentage defense (.392) and scoring defense (62.7 ppg.).
