OWATONNA, Minn. – Saint John's tennis lost three matches via the super-breaker in a 6-3 non-conference defeat to Luther (Iowa) on Saturday, Feb. 23, in Owatonna.

SJU (1-1 overall) led 2-1 after doubles competition but was edged in the super-breaker at Nos. 1 (10-7), 3 (10-8) and 4 (10-8) singles by the Norse (3-1 overall).

Sophomore Thomas Gillach (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes) improved to 2-0 this spring with a super-breaker win of his own at No. 2: 4-6, 7-5 and 10-6.

The Johnnies return to action with five matches March 4-8 during its spring-break trip in Orlando. SJU is slated to face two NCAA Division I opponents, Hampton (March 4) and Appalachian State (March 5), as well as Division II Stonehill (March 6).
