ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Saint John's soccer inched closer to a MIAC Playoff bid with a 2-1 win at Bethel on Tuesday, Oct. 29, in Arden Hills.
The Johnnies (9-7, 5-4 MIAC) clinched their 10th trip to the MIAC Playoffs, and seventh in the last eight seasons, with the win and Saint Mary's 4-0 loss Tuesday night at Macalester.
Senior forward
Ben Becker (Richfield, Minn./Holy Angels) scored the game-winning goal, his eighth tally of the season, two seconds into the 62nd minute. Junior midfielder
Paul Wadsworth (Tacoma, Wash./Stadium) found Becker with a pass at the top of the box and the senior ripped a laser to the top-right corner of the net for his 16th career goal and career-high 20th point of the season. For Wadsworth, the helper was his team-leading fifth assist.
Senior forward
Patrick Erredge (St. Paul, Minn./Apple Valley) gave SJU a 1-0 lead with his second goal of the season, and third of his career, in the 40th minute. He took a pass from senior forward
Kagan Foster (Alexandria, Minn.), side-stepped a defender and beat the goalkeeper to the far post.
The Royals (6-10-1, 1-8-1 MIAC), however, answered 16 seconds later to tie the game at 1-1.

Payton Spencer (Hudson, Wis.) made five saves in the win. SJU out-shot BU 20-11 (8-6 on goal).
The Johnnies play host to Carleton (13-3-1, 6-2-1 MIAC) for the regular-season finale at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Haws Field.
