COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – No. 11 Saint John's basketball extended its win streak to 11 games with an 83-54 victory over Gustavus Adolphus on Wednesday, Jan. 9, in Collegeville.
The Johnnies (12-1, 8-0 MIAC) jumped out to a 23-4 lead and led by 22 points or more over the game's final 17:13.
SJU shot 54.5 percent (30-for-55) from the field, out-rebounded the Gusties (5-9, 2-7 MIAC) by a 45-23 margin and posted a 42-12 scoring advantage in the paint. Both teams committed 16 turnovers in the contest, though the Johnnies scored a 22-11 edge off the miscues.

Ethan Larson (Independence, Minn./Orono) led five Johnnies in double figures with 13 points apiece. Larson's production was a career high and came in 10 minutes off the bench.

The Johnnies entered the game leading NCAA Division III (through games of Jan. 7) in both shooting percentage (.569) and three-point percentage (.447), and were second in rebound margin (+15.8 rpg.), fifth in both scoring defense (61.3 ppg.) and scoring margin (+23.8 ppg.), and sixth in shooting percentage defense (.374).
SJU shot an uncharacteristic 59.3 percent (16-for-27), 16 points below its season average (.756), from the free-throw line.
Vannis Smith and Spencer Tollefson led GAC with eight points apiece. The Gusties shot 34 percent (17-for-50) for the game.
The Johnnies wrap up their three-game homestand with a 3 p.m. game against St. Olaf (7-6, 6-2 MIAC) on Saturday, Jan. 12, in Sexton Arena.
