COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – No. 11 Saint John's basketball continued its winning ways with an 87-60 victory over St. Olaf on Saturday, Jan. 12, in Collegeville.
The Johnnies (13-1, 9-0 MIAC) shot 64.7 percent (33-for-51) from the field, including 72 percent (18-for-25) to gain a 48-27 lead after the game's first 20 minutes, and out-rebounded the Oles (7-7, 6-3 MIAC) by a 36-21 margin.
The home team scored the game's first 10 points and jumped out to a 25-8 lead in the first eight minutes.
SJU entered the game leading NCAA Division III in three statistical categories: shooting percentage (.567), three-point percentage (.448) and rebound margin (+16.2 rpg.). The Johnnies were also third in scoring defense (60.7 ppg.) and fifth in both scoring margin (+24.2 ppg.) and shooting percentage defense (.372).
Senior guard
David Stokman (Maple Lake, Minn.) led all scorers with 21 points, thanks to a 7-for-13 performance from three-point range, with seven assists and five rebounds. He finished one three-pointer away from his career high to record his fourth game of seven treys or more in his SJU career. Stokman now has 226 career three-pointers, six behind the school record held by former teammate

Garrett Goetz '18 for ninth on SJU's all-time assist list with 276, one behind former teammate
Mitchell Kuck '16 in eighth. Stokman also passed Kuck for 12th in school history with 1,275 career points Saturday afternoon. Another teammate from Stokman's freshman season,

Zach Hanson (New Prague, Minn.) posted a career-high 20 points on 9 of 10 shooting with six rebounds. Junior post
Lucas Walford (Elko, Minn./New Prague) collected 13 points and eight rebounds, and sophomore wing
Oakley Baker (Geneva, Minn./New Richland-Heartland-Ellendale-Geneva) added 10 points.
Austin Korba led the Oles with 16 points, on 7 of 18 shooting, and eight rebounds. STO finished at 36.8 percent (21-for-57) from the floor, including 25 percent (5-for-20) from behind the arc.
SJU is now 67-34 against the Oles since the 1964-65 season, including a 42-9 record in Collegeville. The Johnnies have won six of the last eight meetings overall and each of the last four in Sexton Arena.
The Johnnies travel to face Carleton for a 3 p.m. tip-off next Saturday, Jan. 19, in Northfield.
