COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's soccer played Knox (Ill.) to a scoreless tie in the 2018 season opener on Friday, Aug. 31, at Haws Field in Collegeville.
Only one overtime was played due to lack of daylight. The first 3:52 of the second half was played before a 48-minute delay because of lightning in the area.
SJU out-shot Knox, which posted a 13-3-4 record last season, 15-7 (6-2 on goal). The meeting was the first between the two schools on the soccer pitch.

Payton Spencer (Hudson, Wis.) made two saves to record his third career shutout. Senior midfielder
Uriel Cordoba (Medford, Ore./South Medford) led SJU with three shots, including two on goal.
Each team played 21 players in the game, which was SJU's first scoreless tie since Sept. 12, 2015, at nationally ranked Loras (Iowa) and the first in a season opener since Sept. 1, 2010, at Minnesota-Morris.
The Johnnies travel to face NAIA Jamestown (N.D.) for a 5:30 p.m. match on Sunday, Sept. 2.
