ST. PETER, Minn. – No. 3 Saint John's basketball survived a trip to St. Peter with a 78-73 win over Gustavus Adolphus on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
Junior guard
David Stokman (Maple Lake, Minn.) became the 37th Johnnie to reach 1,000 career points with the first of his two free throws with 5:53 left. He led all scorers with 22 points, his fifth 20-point game of the season and 16th of his career, dished four assists and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line in the second half.
SJU (22-2, 18-1 MIAC) led by 11 (50-39) with 15:05 left, but the lead evaporated thanks to a 16-5 run by the Gusties (12-13, 10-10 MIAC). Sophomore wing
Jubie Alade (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) answered with a trey and, although the lead was trimmed to one on three separate occasions, was never relinquished the rest of the way. The Johnnies went 7 of 8 from the charity stripe in the final minute of play to seal the win, which was just the sixth in SJU's last 18 trips to St. Peter.

Lucas Walford (Elko, Minn./New Prague) posted his fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 16 rebounds.
The Johnnies shot 52 percent (13-for-25) from the field and 52.9 percent (9-for-17) from three-point range in the first half to take a seven-point lead (42-35) into the break. SJU made only 34.6 percent (9-for-26) of its shots in the second half to finish at 43.1 percent for the game.
SJU out-rebounded GAC 37-32, but the Gusties out-scored the visitors 16-6 off turnovers.
Riley Sharbono led Gustavus in its season finale with 17 points. Zach Bloemker (5.9 ppg.), Brandon Snoberger (4.4 ppg.) and Spencer Tollefson (3.9 ppg.) all reached double figures in points.
The Johnnies close the regular season with a 1 p.m. game Saturday, Feb. 17, at St. Thomas (14-10, 12-7 MIAC) in St. Paul.
