NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Saint John's hockey overwhelmed St. Olaf with a 49-13 advantage in shots en route to a 5-2 road win on Saturday, Nov. 17, in Northfield.
Senior forward
Robb Stautz (Roseville, Minn.) put SJU on the scoreboard with the first of his two goals on the night, on the power play with 7:25 left in the first period. Tyler Bump tied the game for STO (3-3-1, 1-1-1 MIAC) with 2:17 left in the opening frame.
Stautz gave the lead back to SJU at the 12:10 mark of the second period and senior forward
Joe Chitwood (Carmel, Ind.) made it 3-1 4:26 later.
Senior forward
Evan Okeley (Carmel, Ind.) padded the Johnnies' lead with his third goal of the season 3:46 into the third period.
Kyle Rimbach cut the Oles' deficit to two (4-2), eight seconds into a power play, with 10:38 remaining. The Johnnies, however, killed off a pair of penalties in the game's final 10 minutes.
Junior forward
Kyle Wagner (St. Francis, Minn.) sealed the win for SJU with an empty-net goal, his third tally of the season, with 1:39 left.
Junior goaltender
Andrew Lindgren (Minneapolis, Minn.) made 11 saves to improve to 2-1-1 on the year.
The two teams combined for 19 penalties on the night (2-for-11 on the power play).
The Johnnies return home to host the Oles for a 4 p.m. puck-drop on Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
