Johnnies Blank Oles for Weekend Sweep

Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's hockey completed the weekend sweep of St. Olaf with a 4-0 shutout on Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center (HBNHC) in St. Cloud.

Junior goaltender Andrew Lindgren (Minneapolis, Minn.) stopped all 28 shots for SJU (5-2-1, 3-1-0 MIAC) to record his second collegiate shutout and improve to 3-1-1 on the year. Ten different Johnnies recorded a point.

Sophomore defenseman Travis Brown (Otsego, Minn.) put the Johnnies on the scoreboard with a power-play goal, his first tally of the season, with 2:23 left in the first period. Junior forwards Kyle Wagner (St. Francis, Minn.) and Brady Heppner (Crookston, Minn.) orchestrated the pretty one-timer near the left faceoff circle.

Freshman forward Braden Altena (St. Cloud, Minn.) extended SJU's lead with his first collegiate goal at the 11:09 mark of the second period. Freshman forward Brady Dahl (Rochester, Minn.) possessed the faceoff win by sophomore forward Tristyn Sabina (Kansas City, Mo.) and found sophomore defenseman Jake Dittel (St. Paul, Minn.), who ripped a shot wide off the end wall. The puck caromed to the left side of the net where Altena was waiting.

SJU sealed the win with a pair of goals a minute apart late in the third period. Senior forward Evan Okeley (Carmel, Ind.) tallied his team-leading fourth goal of the season at the 14:28 mark and Dahl ended the scoring with his first collegiate goal 60 seconds later.

The Johnnies out-shot the Oles (3-4-1, 1-2-1 MIAC) 41-28 and went 1-for-4 on the power play to finish at 33.3 percent (3-for-9) on the weekend.

Sunday's game was the first of five consecutive at home for the Johnnies, who return to non-conference play with a pair of contests over Thanksgiving weekend at the HBNHC. SJU hosts Concordia (Wis.) for a 7 p.m. contest Friday, Nov. 23, and No. 7/11 Marian (Wis.) at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24.
