Macalester Spoils SJU's Home Finale

Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Macalester took advantage of its scoring opportunities in a 3-0 win at Saint John's on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Haws Field.

The Johnnies (8-6-1, 4-5-0 MIAC) out-shot the Scots (10-4-3, 7-1-1 MIAC), who are now tied with Gustavus Adolphus atop the MIAC standings, by an 18-11 margin (5-4 on goal) and posted a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.

SJU needs to defeat Carleton in the regular-season finale - 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in Northfield - to extend the season and earn its seventh consecutive MIAC Playoff berth.

The Scots' Floyd Krom gave the visitors a quick 1-0 lead with a breakaway, aided by a slip on the turf by junior goalkeeper Nicholas French (Waterford, Wis.), 3:02 into the game.

Logan Harper padded the lead in the 58th minute with a left-footed free kick from the right corner of the box that snuck inside the near post. Max Kent ended the scoring on a penalty kick in the 65th minute.

French made one save in the loss. Junior forward Ben Becker (Richfield, Minn./Holy Angels) led the Johnnies with five shots.
