Johnnies Drop Non-Conference Game to Concordia in Double OT

Box Score

FARGO, N.D. – Saint John's soccer suffered its second 2-1, double-overtime loss of the weekend in a non-conference game with Concordia-Moorhead on Sunday, Oct. 14, at Shanley High School in Fargo, N.D.

Austin Peterson scored the game-winner for Concordia (6-8-0 overall) on a rebound off a deadball service 3:13 into the second overtime.

Sophomore midfielder Paul Wadsworth (Tacoma, Wash./Stadium) tied the game at 1-1 for SJU (8-4-1 overall) with 3:47 remaining in regulation. Sophomore midfielder Tommy Picka (Victoria, Minn./Chaska) nearly tied it with a shot on net, and the keeper's save deflected around in the box until senior midfielder Rene Cabrera (Medford, Ore./South Medford) chipped it to Wadsworth from a yard out.

Sam Gess gave the Cobbers a 1-0 lead 11:47 into the second half.

Junior Nicholas French (Waterford, Wis.) made three saves in the loss.

SJU, which shut out the Cobbers 3-0 a month ago (Sept. 12) in Collegeville, out-shot CC 12-8 (10-5 on goal) and held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Johnnies return to conference play with a 3:30 p.m. game Saturday, Oct. 20, at Hamline in St. Paul.
