ST. PETER, Minn. – Seven Saint John's tennis student-athletes competed at the 2018 ITA Midwest Regional and Midwest Open Sept. 28-29 on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter.

Sophomore Nate Jordre (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) led the team with a 2-1 record in the ITA Regional. He advanced to Saturday after defeating Carthage's (Wis.) John Nykforuk (6-2, 6-2) and Grinnell's (Iowa) Ishan Tibrewal (7-6, 6-3) Friday. Jordre fell to the seventh seed, Gustavus' Yassine Derbani, Saturday (6-3, 6-1). Jordre went 4-1 and advanced last year's semifinal in the Midwest Open.

Jordre's doubles partner, sophomore Thomas Gillach (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes), won his first match, 6-3 and 6-0 over the Gusties' Mouaad Alhouni, but bowed out with a loss to the No. 17 seed, Alex Gray of Wisconsin-Whitewater, in the second round (6-1, 6-4).

Jordre and Gillach teamed up to go 1-1 in the ITA Regional's doubles bracket, defeating a pair from Wisconsin-Eau Claire (8-2) before falling to Carleton's Jordon O'Kelly and Leo Vithoontien (9-7).

Seniors Ryan Meger (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi) and Hunter Krebsbach (St. Paul, Minn/Mounds View) both went 0-1 in the tournament.

Meger joined classmate Jonah Punnoose (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) in doubles play and went 1-1.

In the Midwest Open, sophomore Parker Dutko (Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater Area) went 1-1 after a bye in the first round, while sophomore Logan Lintvedt (Independence, Minn./Delano) went 0-1. The two partnered in the Open's doubles draw, but lost a close match (8-6) to Concordia (Wis.) in the opening round.
