Ulrich Sparks SJU in 6-3 Win Over Minnesota-Morris

Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – A three-run sixth inning lifted Saint John's to a 6-3 non-conference win over Minnesota-Morris on Wednesday, April 12, at Becker Park in Collegeville.

The Johnnies (16-7, 6-2 MIAC) broke a 3-3 tie with three two-out runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Freshman outfielder Wyatt Ulrich (Indus, Minn./International Falls) laced a two-run single to the left-centerfield gap and senior third baseman Derek Schiebel (Apple Valley, Minn.) brought him around with an RBI double, his second two-bagger of the game.

Ulrich (ull-rick) went 4-for-5, his team-leading 12th multi-hit game of the season, with two runs scored and three RBI to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. He is now batting .550 (33-for-60) in 14 games this season, including a .600 average (18-for-30) with 13 runs scored and 12 RBI during the Johnnies' current seven-game win streak.

SJU tallied single runs in each of the first three innings, two of which came off the bat of junior first baseman Jeron Terres (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori).

The Cougars (6-16, 0-2 UMAC) put together four straight singles to plate a pair of runs in the top of the third inning and tied the game at 3-3 with an unearned run in the fourth.

UMM out-hit SJU 13-10, thanks to a combined 10-for-19 showing from the top four hitters in the lineup.

Junior Ted Christian (Le Center, Minn./Tri-City United) earned the win (1-1 record), allowing the unearned run and a total of three hits in three innings.

Sophomore Danny Kuhn (Alexandria, Minn.) pitched two innings of scoreless, one-hit ball and freshman Joey Stock (Cold Spring, Minn./Saint John's Prep) tossed a scoreless ninth for his first collegiate save.

Sophomore Cameron Jurek (Foley, Minn.) made the start, allowing two runs on eight hits in two innings of work.

Senior outfielder Blake Langerud (Faribault, Minn./Bethlehem Academy) matched Schiebel (she-bull) with two hits on the day. The two doubles enabled Schiebel to move into a tie with former teammate Aaron Pfaff '15 for fourth in school history (29).

Both teams left nine men on base and SJU turned three double plays on the afternoon.

The Johnnies return to conference play with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, April 15, in St. Peter.
