Johnnies Move to 4-0 With 4-1 Win at UW-Stout

Box Score

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Saint John's hockey continued its winning ways with a 4-1 victory at Wisconsin-Stout on Saturday, Nov. 4, in Menomonie, Wis.

The 4-0 start is the first for the Johnnies since 2004-05, when SJU rattled off 11 straight wins en route to a 20-game unbeaten streak (18-0-2 record).

Ten different Johnnies recorded a point Saturday night. Sophomore forward Brady Heppner (Crookston, Minn.) gave SJU a 1-0 lead in the closing seconds (19:46) of the first period with a power-play goal, his third tally of the season, on a nice one-timer from sophomore defenseman Cole Souto (Yorba Linda, Calif.). Sophomore forward Kyle Wagner (St. Francis, Minn.) earned the second assist.

Freshman defenseman Travis Brown (Otsego, Minn.) made it 2-0 with his second tally in as many games during a 4-on-4 9:14 into the second period, but Lucas Carroll cut the lead in half with a shorthanded goal for Stout (1-2-1 overall) 22 seconds later.

Junior forward Garrett Riebling (Chanhassen, Minn.) added an insurance goal, his second tally in as many games, 11:49 into the third period. He recorded what proved to be the game-winning goal in Friday night's 6-2 win at Wisconsin-River Falls. Junior forward Evan Okeley (Carmel, Ind.) and freshman defenseman Jake Dittel (St. Paul, Minn.) were credited with the assists.

Senior captain Huba Sekesi (Germering, Germany) ended the game's scoring with a power-play goal, the Johnnies' sixth of the weekend, with 4:07 remaining from Brown and junior forward Matt Colford (Champlin, Minn.).

Freshman goaltender Mac Berglove (Elk River, Minn.) made 29 saves to improve to 2-0 on the young season. Freshman goaltender Evan Hauser, a transfer from Division I Alaska-Anchorage, made 20 stops for the Blue Devils.

The Johnnies return home to host Bethel for the conference and home opener at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
