Johnnies Score 110 Points in Road Win at Morris

Box Score

MORRIS, Minn. – Saint John's basketball fired on all cylinders in a 110-79 non-conference win at Minnesota-Morris on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

The 110 points scored were the most for SJU since Dec. 10, 1994 (117-91 win at Macalester) and the 100-point game was the first since Jan. 27, 2007 (100-66 home win over Gustavus Adolphus).

All 15 Johnnies played in Wednesday night's game, of which all but three scored a point.

The Johnnies (3-1 overall) shot 63.9 percent (39-for-61) from the field in the win, including an even 50 percent (14-for-28) from three-point range. SJU led by as much as 32 (92-60) and scored 20 points off 10 Morris turnovers.

The visitors shot 68.8 percent (22-for-32) from the field and made nine three-pointers (56.3 percent, 9-for-16) to take a 60-38 lead into halftime.

Senior post Tyler Weiss (Shakopee, Minn.) and freshman guard Oakley Baker (Geneva, Minn./New Richland-Heartland-Ellendale-Geneva) led four Johnnies in double figures with 15 points apiece. Weiss scored 13 points in the first half and played only 16 minutes in the game. He is now seven points away from becoming the 36th Johnnie in school history to reach 1,000 for a career.

All 15 points for Baker came on 5 of 7 shooting from behind the arc. He had attempted only two shots, both from downtown, in a combined 16 minutes through the season's first three games.

Sophomore post Lucas Walford (Elko, Minn./New Prague) followed with 14 points, on a perfect 7-for-7 night from the floor, and grabbed seven rebounds in his second start as a Johnnie.

Junior guard David Stokman (Maple Lake, Minn.) totaled 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

C.D. Douglas and Noah Grove led the Cougars (0-6 overall) with 16 points each. UMM shot 47.5 percent (29-for-61) from the floor, but only 28 percent (7-for-25) from three-point range.

The Johnnies return home to host Bethel (4-1, 0-1 MIAC), which lost at home to Augsburg tonight (87-74), for their conference opener at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, in Sexton Arena.
