ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John's hockey earned a weekend split with a 4-2 win over St. Olaf on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 18, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
SJU (6-2, 2-2 MIAC) out-shot the Oles 55-27, including a 19-4 margin in the first period, and nine different Johnnies recorded a point in the win.
Junior forward
Matt Colford (Champlin, Minn.) put SJU ahead early with his second goal of the season 4:09 into the game.
Tuukka Totro tied the game for STO (4-4, 2-2 MIAC) 7:23 into the second period, but junior forward
Mitch Fritz (St. Cloud, Minn.) gave the lead back to the Johnnies with his first goal of the season, and 25th career point, 18 seconds later.
Senior forward
Tyler Dunagan (Maple Grove, Minn.) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal 3:37 later and junior defenseman
Sean Lang (Apple Valley, Minn.) put away a beautiful pass from Colford on the back door 12:18 into the third period.
Charlie Widmar ended the game's scoring with 2:49 remaining.
Freshman goaltender
Mac Berglove (Elk River, Minn.) made 25 saves to improve to 3-1 on the season.
The Johnnies travel to Wisconsin for a pair of games during Thanksgiving Break, beginning with a 7 p.m. date with Marian (Wis.) on Friday, Nov. 24. SJU travels to face Concordia (Wis.) at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25.
