Hot Shooting Performance Carries SJU to 73-56 Win at Gustavus

ST. PETER, Minn. – Saint John's basketball shot 60.4 percent (29-for-48) from the field, including a blistering 74.1 percent (20-for-27) in the first half, en route to a 73-56 win at Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, Jan. 7, in St. Peter.

Sophomore guard David Stokman (Maple Lake, Minn.) led all scorers with 28 points on 11 of 14 shooting, including a 6-for-8 performance from three-point range.

The Johnnies (8-3, 4-2 MIAC) made 11 of their first 13 shots and took a 45-30 lead into halftime. The visitors led by as much as 26 (68-42) with 7:29 remaining.

Freshman wing Jubie Alade (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) added 12 points off the bench and junior post Tyler Weiss (Shakopee, Minn.) tallied 11. Nine different Johnnies recorded a point in the victory.

Jason Faul led GAC (3-9, 3-4 MIAC), which never led, with 12 points. The Gusties out-rebounded SJU by a slim 24-22 margin, but the Johnnies out-scored GAC 19-6 off turnovers.

The Johnnies return home to host Macalester for a 7 p.m. tip-off this Wednesday, Jan. 11, in Sexton Arena.
