COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's basketball opened 2017 with a 75-65 win over St. Olaf on Monday, Jan. 2, in Sexton Arena.

Jubie Alade (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) led all scorers with a career-high 25 points, on 11-for-15 shooting, off the bench.
Junior post
Tyler Weiss (Shakopee, Minn.) followed with 19 points and six rebounds, including 14 points and five boards in the second half alone, before fouling out with 55 seconds remaining.
SJU (7-2, 3-1 MIAC) shot 66.7 percent (16-for-24) from the field in the first half and led by as much as 21 (42-21), but the Oles (3-6, 1-3 MIAC) took a 9-0 run into halftime.
The visitors opened the second half with a 5-0 run to cut their deficit to seven (42-35), but the Johnnies answered with a 10-0 run and the lead never dipped below seven points the rest of the way.
SJU finished at 55.1 percent (27-for-49) for the game and tallied 17 fast-break points.
Robert Tobroxen led St. Olaf, which out-rebounded SJU 35-29 (12-3 on the offensive glass), with 17 points.
The Johnnies play host to Concordia-Moorhead (5-4, 2-2 MIAC) for a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday, Jan. 4, in Collegeville.
