ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John's hockey settled for a 2-2 tie with St. Olaf on Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center (HBNHC) in St. Cloud.
J.T. Paine's late goal with 1:35 remaining tied the game at 2-2 and the Oles (4-10-2, 2-5-1 MIAC) won the shootout, 2-0, to earn the extra point in the conference standings.
SJU (8-6-3, 3-3-2 MIAC) out-shot STO 44-20 in the game, including a 20-2 margin in the first period.
Sophomore forward
Robb Stautz (Roseville, Minn.) gave SJU a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal, his fourth tally of the season, 11:44 into the game. Senior defenseman

Mitch Fritz (St. Cloud, Minn.) made it 2-0 with a tough-angle shot from the end line 4:07 later. Tripicchio and sophomore defenseman
Grady Ewing (St. Cloud, Minn.) assisted on the goal, Fritz's fourth of the season and 20th career point.
Drew Otto cut the Oles' deficit in half with a power-play goal at the 19:41 mark of the first period.
Freshman goaltender
Andrew Lindgren (Minneapolis, Minn.) made 18 saves in his first start since Dec. 3 at Gustavus Adolphus, which was also a 2-2 tie and eventual shootout loss.
The Johnnies play host to Bethel for a 7 p.m. game on Thursday, Jan. 29, at the HBNHC in St. Cloud.
