ST. PETER, Minn. – Saint John's cross country opened its 2016 season with a second place out of three teams on Saturday, Sept. 10, in St. Peter.
Gustavus Adolphus had four runners in the top five for a total of 21 points, followed by SJU (44) and the GAC Alumni (67).

Ryan Bugler (Okinawa, Japan/Kubasaki) led the SJU with a second-place finish on the 5k course in 15:58. Classmate
Lukas Buehler (Omaha, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) led a group of four Johnnies in place 9-12 with a time of 16:52. Senior
Brandon Franta (La Crescent, Minn.), sophomore
James Mathison (Stewartville, Minn.) and sophomore
Trey Collins (Plentywood, Mont./Royalton) followed in 10th (16:53), 11th (17:01) and 12th (17:08), respectively.
SJU returns to competition in two weeks with a race against its alumni at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24. The race is scheduled to begin near Saint John's Prep (Water Tower).
