NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Saint John's finished second out of 20 teams in the Maize Division race of Carleton's Running of the Cows on Saturday, Oct. 3.
Wisconsin-Eau Claire won the race with 95 points, followed by SJU (126), Luther (130), Bethel (149) and a tie between Kalamazoo and Wisconsin-Oshkosh (160).
Senior
Cole Stencel (Mapleton, Minn./Maple River) finished first out of 326 runners with a personal-best, 8k time of 25:17. The time led all MIAC runners in either the Navy or Maize races.
Senior
Vincent Kaluza (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) was next for the Johnnies in 11th with a time of 26:23 and classmate
Max McCoy (Bennington, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) claimed 31st (26:56).
Freshman
Quinn Carroll (West Fargo, N.D./Shanley) followed in 41st (27:04), sophomore
Erick Montalvo (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville Area) in 50th (27:12) and senior
Jacob Malecha (Lonsdale, Minn./New Prague) was close behind in 52nd (27:12) for the fifth spot.
The Johnnies return home to host the CSB+SJU Autumn Classic with Saint Benedict in two weeks at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at River Oaks G.C. in Cold Spring.
