Doubles Play Sinks SJU in 6-3 Loss to Luther

WINONA, Minn. – Saint John's tennis ended its two-day trip to Winona with a 6-3 neutral-site, non-conference loss to Luther (Iowa) on Saturday, March 12, at the Winona Tennis Center.

The Norse (8-4, 0-0 IIAC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles competition and the two teams split the six singles matches. 

Sophomore Tim Larson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) improved to 6-2 with a straight-set win at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-2) and senior Ben Lahren (Wausau, Wis./West) followed with a victory at No. 3 (6-1, 6-3). Freshman Jonah Punnoose (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) won the other singles match for SJU (3-5, 3-2 MIAC) at No. 6 (6-3, 6-2).

Larson and senior Jack Hansen (Dawson, Minn./Dawson-Boyd) lost a hard-fought 9-7 decision at No. 1 doubles.

The Johnnies travel to Florida for five matches during spring break March 21-25.
