Johnnies Net Four Power-Play Goals in 6-1 Win

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John's hockey went 4-for-5 on the power play in a 6-1 non-conference win over Lawrence (Wis.) on Sunday, Nov. 27, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center (HBNHC) in St. Cloud.

Following a scoreless first period, SJU (5-4-1, 2-2-0 MIAC) tallied two power-play goals in the second period and broke open a 2-1 game with four goals, including two more on the man advantage, in the third period.

Junior forward Sam Valerius (Maple Grove, Minn.) tallied two goals, including what proved to be the game-winner, and added an assist in the win. He totaled five points (4g/1a) on the weekend and leads the team with six goals on the year.

Freshman defenseman Cole Souto (Yorba Linda, Calif.) recorded four points (1g/3a), all on the power play, Sunday. Eight (2g/6a) of his nine (2g/7a) points this season were collected on the power play.

Junior forward Huba Sekesi (Germering, Germany) opened the scoring with a power-play tally 2:47 into the second period and Valerius found the back of the net with a power-play goal of his own less than five minutes later.

Lane King cut the Vikings' (3-5-0, 3-1-0 NCHA) deficit to 2-1 with a power-play tally at the 14:26 mark of the second.

Sophomore forward Evan Okeley (Carmel, Ind.) made it 3-1 with his fourth goal of the season 3:41 into the third period. Valerius added to the lead on a pseudo-breakaway goal 3:30 later before Souto and sophomore Matt Colford (Champlin, Minn.) ended the scoring with a power-play goal each.

Freshman goaltender Andrew Lindgren (Minneapolis, Minn.) made 22 saves to improve to 2-2 on the young season.

SJU out-shot Lawrence 46-23 in the game, including a 34-14 advantage after the first period.

The Johnnies return to conference play with a 7 p.m. home game against Gustavus Adolphus this Thursday, Dec. 1, at the HBNHC in St. Cloud.
