Johnnies Double Up Colorado College in Second Half, Roll to 82-55 Win

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Saint John's basketball ended its Thanksgiving trip to Colorado with an 82-55 win over Colorado College on Saturday, Nov. 26.

The Johnnies (4-1 overall) shot 53.1 percent (17-for-32) in the second half and doubled up the Tigers (1-4 overall) on the scoreboard, 50-25.

Junior guard Patrick Strom (Fargo, N.D./Shanley) nailed five three-pointers and led all scorers with 22 points. Junior post Tyler Weiss (Shakopee, Minn.) added 20 points, including 14 in the second half alone, and grabbed five rebounds. Sophomore guard David Stokman (Maple Lake, Minn.) collected 10 points, seven assists and five boards.

Strom was named the 2016 Rocky Mount Thanksgiving Classic's most valuable player, while Weiss was named to the All-Tournament team.

SJU shot only 38.7 percent (12-for-31) from the field but took a 32-30 into halftime. The Johnnies went on an 11-1 run to open up 52-40 lead with 12 minutes remaining and broke the game open with a 19-8 run later in the half.

Eric Houska led CC, which made only five field goals (5-for-20) in the second half, with 15 points and seven assists.

SJU scored 18 points off 16 CC turnovers and posted an 11-4 advantage in second-chance points.

The Johnnies return home to host Carleton for their MIAC opener at 3 p.m. next Saturday, Dec. 3, in Sexton Arena.
