Late Own Goal Trips SJU at Hamline

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's soccer suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss at Hamline on Saturday, Oct. 22, in St. Paul.

The game-winning tally was an own goal, a corner kick from the Pipers' Adam King that deflected off an SJU defender to the back of the net, with 1:30 remaining in the game. James Nash gave HU (9-4-2, 3-3-2 MIAC) a 1-0 lead with a header off a corner kick from King in the 68th minute.

Junior Nic Kramer (Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) tied the game for SJU (5-7-3, 4-3-1 MIAC) with his second goal of the season in the 80th minute. A shot from sophomore Zack Boerjan (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) was blocked and ricocheted to Kramer for the game-tying shot.

Freshman goalkeeper Payton Spencer (Hudson, Wis.) made his second collegiate start and stopped four shots in the loss.

The Johnnies return home to host Macalester for a 3:30 p.m. game this Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Haws Field.
