Slow Start Leads to 2-0 Loss for SJU Soccer

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's soccer fell to Wisconsin-Superior by a score of 2-0 in its final non-conference game of the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 16, in Collegeville.

Gio Gonzalez scored both goals for Superior (7-7, 5-1 UMAC), in the fifth and ninth minutes.

SJU (5-6-3, 4-2-1 MIAC) out-shot the Yellowjackets 18-15 (7-7 on goal), including an 18-9 margin (7-3 on goal) in the final 76:30 of the match.

Senior Rocky Harmon (Hudson, Wis.) hit the post with 8:40 left in the first half. Senior Dylan Lehrer (Prior Lake, Minn.) registered six shots, five of which were on goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Payton Spencer (Hudson, Wis.) made five saves in the loss, his first collegiate start.

The Johnnies return to conference play with a 3:30 p.m. match at Hamline on Saturday, Oct. 22, in St. Paul.
