Johnnies Register 44 Shots on Goal in 4-2 Loss to St. Olaf

Box Score

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Olaf tallied two third-period, power-play goals in a 4-2 win over Saint John's on Friday, Jan. 15, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.

SJU (5-9-2, 3-4-0 MIAC) out-shot the Oles 44-25 in the game but squandered a number of scoring chances in the loss.

Down 2-1, SJU was called for a penalty with 0.3 seconds remaining in the second period to create a 4-on-3 power play, which the Oles capitalized on only 50 seconds into the third. STO (3-10-3, 1-4-1 MIAC) added another power-play goal with 8:29 remaining before freshman defenseman Sean Lang (Apple Valley, Minn.) ended the scoring with a power-play goal of his own at the 14:12 mark of the third. Junior forward Kevin Becker (Roseville, Minn.) and sophomore forward Huba Sekesi (Germering, Germany) assisted on the goal, Lang's fifth of the season.

Nick Marsh took advantage of an SJU turnover in its defensive zone and scored a breakaway goal to give St. Olaf a 1-0 lead 8:55 into the game. Marsh finished with two goals and an assist.

Freshman forward Connor Kelly (Chaska, Minn.) tied it up for SJU with his second goal of the season 3:20 later, with assists going to freshman defenseman Joey Lindberg (Woodbury, Minn.) and junior forward Dan McNamara (Grand Rapids, Mich.).

STO regained the lead when Ole Setsaas deflected a shot from Connor Quinn 1:18 after the Johnnies tied it. Setsaas, like Marsh, finished the game with two goals and an assist.

Senior goaltender Saxton Soley (Elk Mound, Wis.) made 21 saves in the loss.

The Johnnies travel to face the Oles for a 7:30 p.m. game on Saturday, Jan. 16, at the Northfield Ice Arena.
