Johnnies and Knights Play to 1-1 Tie

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – No. 20 Saint John's soccer played Carleton to a 1-1 tie on Saturday, Sept. 26, in Northfield.

Junior Sam Newman (St. Louis, Mo./Priory) gave SJU (6-1-2, 2-0-1 MIAC) a 1-0 lead only 1:04 into the match for his third goal of the season. He corralled a deflected ball on the right side of the box, brought it to the middle and blasted a shot inside the left post.  

Peter Passalino tied the match for Carleton (3-4-2, 0-1-1 MIAC) in the 20th minute on a rebound off senior goalkeeper Kevin Lebahn (New Hope, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's). Lebahn made six saves in the tie.

The Johnnies return home to host Augsburg (4-3-1, 2-0-0 MIAC) for a 4 p.m. match on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Haws Field in Collegeville.
