Strong Second Half Lifts SJU to 4-1 Win Over Saint Mary's

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's soccer responded from a 1-0 halftime deficit with four goals in the second half, including two from senior midfielder Alex Niederloh (Maple Grove, Minn.), to top Saint Mary's 4-1 on Saturday, Sept. 19, on Haws Field.



Niederloh tied the match for SJU (5-1-1, 2-0-0 MIAC) at 1-1 with his first goal of the season 1:26 into the second half and added his second of the day on a penalty kick in the 74th minute.

Junior Sam Newman (St. Louis, Mo./Priory) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal, his second of the season, in the 56th minute.

Sophomore Nic Kramer (Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) ended the scoring with his first collegiate goal in the 81st minute.

Senior Kevin Lebahn (New Hope, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) made five saves to move to 5-1-1 on the year. Sophomore Conor Failor (Bloomington, Minn./Holy Angels) made one save in the final 5:21 of relief.

Jim Dreshar gave the Cardinals (2-4, 0-2 MIAC) their 1-0 lead with 1:42 left in the first half, his team-leading third goal of the season.

The Johnnies make a brief return to non-conference action with a 1 p.m. match against Luther (Iowa) on Sunday, Sept. 20, at Haws Field.
