SJU Splits Pair of Extra-Inning Games vs. Concordia (Wis.)

Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score

TUCSON, Ariz. – Saint John's split a pair of extra-inning games with Concordia (Wis.) on Friday, March 20, in Tucson, Ariz.

The Johnnies (7-6 overall) spoiled senior Tyler Delwiche's (Andover, Minn./Totino-Grace) excellent start in game one's 1-0 loss in 10 innings, but bounced back to post a 7-5 win in eight innings in game two.

Delwiche struck out a career-high 12 and allowed six hits and three walks in seven innings of work. Senior Kurt Jantscher (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) was saddled with the loss in relief. He allowed one hit, a one-out triple off the bat of Nathan Thyssen that plated a leadoff walk in the top of the 10th.

SJU mustered only five hits in the 10 innings and left eight runners on base, including the game-winning run on third base in the ninth.

The Johnnies surrendered a 5-0 lead in game two but rebounded for the win. SJU registered 15 hits but left 14 men on base. The Falcons (3-6 overall) chipped away at the deficit with two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings, and tied the game on another triple from Thyssen in the bottom of the seventh.

Senior Tom Druk (Plymouth, Minn./Orono) singled with one out in the eighth and Jantscher drew a walk. Junior Mike Stegora (Red Wing, Minn.) singled up the middle to plate Druk, which proved to be the game-winning run, and senior Geno Larkin (Eden Prairie, Minn.) followed with an RBI single of his own to make it 7-5.

Senior Collin Felhaber (North St. Paul, Minn.) went the distance to earn the win, allowing five runs (four earned) on 11 hits. He struck out 10 and walked two.

Senior Aaron Pfaff (New Ulm, Minn./Cathedral) led the SJU cause with a 3-for-4 performance in game two. He drove in one and stole two bases. Druk, Larkin, Stegora and junior Logan Hershey (Maple Grove, Minn.) all had two hits apiece. Druk is currently riding an 11-game hitting streak (12-game reached-base streak).

The Johnnies end the trip with a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader against Middlebury (Vt.) on Saturday, March 21.
