Early Lead Slips Away in SJU's MIAC Tennis Opener

SARTELL, Minn. – Saint John's opened its MIAC tennis schedule with a 6-3 loss to St. Thomas on Friday, March 13, at Fitness Evolution in Sartell.

SJU (3-4, 0-1 MIAC) started the match with a 2-1 lead after doubles competition but managed to only snag one of the six singles bouts. 

Juniors Jack Hansen (Dawson, Minn./Dawson-Boyd) and Andrew Nagel (Maple Grove, Minn.) teamed up to post an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while junior Ben Lahren (Wausau, Wis./West) and freshman Tim Larson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) won by an 8-3 score at No. 2.

Hansen won the lone singles match at No. 1, 6-1 and 6-2.

The Johnnies host a pair of matches next Saturday, March 21, beginning with a 1 p.m. showdown with St. Olaf at Fitness Evolution in Sartell. SJU then takes on Northwestern for a non-conference match at 4 p.m. Both matches are scheduled for indoors (Fitness Evolution), but may be moved outdoors to the CSB Tennis Courts in St. Joseph, weather permitting.
