Box ScoreBLAINE, Minn. – Saint John's hockey squandered numerous scoring chances and out-shot Bethel 31-19, including a 15-2 margin in the third period, but fell to the Royals by a 2-0 score on Friday, Feb. 13, in Blaine.
The win snapped a 19-game winless streak (0-17-2 record) for Bethel (3-17-2, 1-11-1 MIAC), which entered the game averaging 4.52 goals allowed per contest.
Jackson Purvis tallied the Royals' first goal with 4:29 left in the second period and Michael Chuinard ended the scoring 58 seconds into the third.
The first penalty of the game was called on BU with 4:16 to play, but SJU (10-7-5, 6-5-2 MIAC) mustered only one shot on goal during the man advantage.
Junior goaltender
Saxton Soley (Elk Mound, Wis.) made 17 saves in the loss, while BU's Matt Rowe made the 31 stops to earn his second career shutout and second win of the season.
The Johnnies return home to host the Royals for Senior Night at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
