Johnnies Break Through for 6-3 Win Over Bethel

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John's hockey bounced back from Friday's 2-0 loss with a 6-3 win over Bethel on Saturday, Feb. 14, in St. Cloud.

Senior forward John Haeg (Lakeville, Minn.) tallied a pair of goals, including what proved to be the game-winner, for his 98th and 99th career points. He now has 12 points (8g/4a) in nine career games against Bethel and needs one more point to become the 21st Johnnie in school history to reach 100.

Senior defenseman Wally Cossette (Maple Grove, Minn.) registered three points (1g/2a) and had a hand in SJU's first three goals. Haeg's second goal gave SJU (11-7-5, 7-5-2 MIAC) a 4-1 lead 5:19 into the third period before Bethel (3-18-2, 1-12-1 MIAC) cut its deficit to one with two goals three minutes apart halfway through the final frame. 

Junior forward Neal Smith (Rogers, Minn.) padded the Johnnies' lead with 6:54 remaining and sophomore forward Dan Voce (Princeton, Minn.) ended the scoring with his second career goal at the 18:48 mark. Smith and freshman forwards Huba Sekesi (Germering, Germany) and Sam Valerius (Maple Grove, Minn.) all had two points on the night.

Junior goaltender Saxton Soley (Elk Mound, Wis.) made 20 saves to improve his season record to 9-5-5.

The Johnnies play host to No. 14/15 St. Thomas for their regular-season, home finale at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
