Dunagan's Late Tally Puts SJU in Win Column

Box Score

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Sophomore forward Tyler Dunagan's (Maple Grove, Minn.) goal with 30 seconds remaining in regulation gave Saint John's a 2-1 win over No. 14 Hamline on Thursday, Nov. 19, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.

Following a scoreless first period, sophomore Huba Sekesi (Germering, Germany) gave SJU (1-4-2, 1-2-0 MIAC) a 1-0 lead 8:07 into the second. Freshman Joe Chitwood (Carmel, Ind.) took advantage of a Piper turnover behind the net and quickly centered a pass to an open Sekesi in front. The goal was Sekesi's second of the season and 15th career point.

Kevin Novakovich tied the game for Hamline (3-2-2, 1-1-1 MIAC) 5:56 into the third period.

Freshman forward Garrett Riebling (Chanhassen, Minn.) set up the game-winning goal with a wrap-around attempt along the side of the net that, instead of a shot attempt, turned into a pass to Dunagan in front. Senior captain Andrew Commers (Edina, Minn.) was credited with the second assist on the goal, which was Dunagan's first of the year and 15th career point.

Senior Saxton Soley (Elk Mound, Wis.) made 30 saves for SJU in the win. HU entered the contest averaging 4.5 goals per game so far this season.

The Johnnies wrap up the weekend series with Hamline at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at Oscar Johnson Arena in St. Paul.
