Johnnies Play No. 7 Eau Claire to 1-1 Tie

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John's hockey and No. 7 Wisconsin-Eau Claire played to a 1-1 tie on Friday, Nov. 13, at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud.

Following two scoreless periods, freshman Matt Colford (Champlin, Minn.) gave SJU (0-3-2, 0-2-0 MIAC) a 1-0 lead with his first collegiate goal 6:09 into the third period. Freshman Joe Chitwood (Carmel, Ind.) fed sophomore Huba Sekesi (Germering, Germany) in the right slot, who sent a nice cross to a hard-charging Colford on the left side of the net.

UWEC (3-0-2, 0-0-0 WIAC) tied the game with a power-play goal from Ethan Nauman, on a tip in front, with 3:56 remaining in regulation.

Senior Saxton Soley (Elk Mound, Wis.) made 31 saves in the tie for SJU, which was out-shot 32-20 in the game.

The Blugolds went 1-for-4 on the power play, while SJU was 0-for-5 on the man advantage.

The Johnnies play host to No. 2 Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
