Johnnies Lock Up Second Seed With 2-0 Win Over St. Olaf

Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's soccer locked up the No. 2 seed in next week's MIAC Playoffs with a 2-0 win over St. Olaf in the regular-season finale on Saturday, Oct. 31, at Haws Field in Collegeville.

The Johnnies (12-3-2, 7-2-1 MIAC) will host the highest remaining seed in the semifinal round of the MIAC Playoffs at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Haws Field. Both quarterfinal matches will be held in Northfield on Tuesday, Nov. 3: No. 6 St. Thomas at No. 3 Carleton and No. 5 Hamline at No. 4 St. Olaf.

Sophomore Alex Schnobrich (Houlton, Wis./Shattuck-St. Mary's) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal on a blast from 30 yards out 10:24 into the match. Juniors Sam Newman (St. Louis, Mo./Priory) and Ryley Sullivan (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/Gonzaga Prep, Wash.) provided the assists on the goal, which was Schnobrich's second of the season and fifth of his career.

Junior Dylan Lehrer (Prior Lake, Minn.) added an insurance goal, his second of the season, on an interesting play with 17 minutes remaining. A high service went off the out-stretched goalkeeper's hands and fell to his right, but Lehrer charged into the box and kicked the ball mid-air into the back of the net.

Senior Kevin Lebahn (New Hope, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) made four saves to post his fifth shutout of the season, 16th of his career, and improve to 12-3-2 on the season.

St. Olaf (10-7-1, 6-3-1 MIAC) held a slight edge in shots, 13-12, though the Johnnies posted a slim 5-4 advantage on goal.
