FORT MYERS, Fla. – Saint John's came through in the late innings to sweep Bluffton (Ohio), 12-3 and 3-2, on Thursday, March 6, in Fort Myers, Fla.

The two teams played an inning and a half of game one before lightning and rain delayed the doubleheader for nearly five hours and forced a site location. Down 2-0, SJU (7-1 overall) registered four runs in each of the final three innings to post the 12-3 victory.

Senior Joe Lampe (Osceola, Iowa/Clarke), celebrating his 22nd birthday, went 3-for-4, a home run short of the cycle, with six RBI from the No. 9 spot in the lineup in the victory. The six RBI is the most in a single game by a Johnnie since Matt Butorac '11 recorded six against Dickinson (Pa.) nearly five years to the date, March 7, 2009, in Chandler, Ariz.

Junior Aaron Pfaff (New Ulm, Minn./Cathedral) and sophomore Logan Hershey (Maple Grove, Minn.) each added three hits and two RBI, while senior Dylan Graves (Mora, Minn.) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Sophomore Joe Stanton (Stillwater, Minn.) earned the win, the first of his collegiate career, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits in five innings. He struck out three and walked three. Senior Justin Thompson (Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska) pitched two innings of scoreless relief and struck out three.

Bluffton (2-3 overall) gained a lead once again, 2-0, after 3.5 innings in a scheduled nine-inning contest in game two. Junior Geno Larkin (Eden Prairie, Minn.) was plunked to start the bottom of the fourth, advanced to third on a double by senior Luke Larson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) and scored on a groundout from Hershey to cut the Johnnies' deficit to 2-1.

SJU gained the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Lampe doubled to left field, Pfaff walked and junior Brett Becker's (North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View) sacrifice bunt turned into a hit to load the bases. A wild pitch tied the game at 2-2 and Larkin lifted a deep fly to right field, which plated Pfaff.

Thompson gave up a leadoff double to start the ninth, but he proceeded to sandwich a groundball out with two strikeouts to end the threat and seal the victory.

Junior Collin Felhaber (North St. Paul, Minn.) controlled the Bluffton bats, allowing the two runs on five hits with 11 strikeouts in six innings to earn the no decision. The last Johnnie to record 10 or more strikeouts in a game was Adam Johnson '08 with 10 against Marian (Wis.) on March 21, 2008, in Chandler, Ariz.

Freshman Derek Graves (Mora, Minn.) struck out three in two innings of hitless relief and Thompson earned his second save of the season with the scoreless ninth.

Larson went 3-for-4 and Becker posted a 2-for-3 performance to lead the Johnnies at the plate.

SJU ends its spring-break trip with a nine-inning game against Cornell (Iowa) at 9 a.m. Friday, March 7.
