FORT MYERS, Fla. – Saint John's cranked out 22 hits and 21 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Northland (Wis.), 12-4 and 9-1, on Wednesday, March 5, in Fort Myers, Fla.

Senior Dylan Graves (Mora, Minn.) gave the Johnnies (5-1 overall) a quick 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the first inning of game one. Sparked by a two-run double from senior Joe Lampe (Osceola, Iowa/Clarke), four walks and a hit batsmen, SJU scored five runs in the second inning and added four more in the fifth.

Graves broke out of a 1-for-11 slump to start the year with a 3-for-4 performance and four RBI in the victory. Senior Luke Larson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) broke out of a similar skid, 1-for-13, by going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Junior Brett Becker (North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View) went 2-for-3 with an RBI and four runs scored.

Freshman Lucas Glomb (Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray) earned the win in his first collegiate start, allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts (three walks) in four innings. Classmate Rhyan Bett (West Covina, Calif./Bishop Amat) recorded two innings of scoreless, hitless relief.

The offensive onslaught continued for the Johnnies into game two. SJU took advantage of an error in the first inning for a run and added two more in the second. Back-to-back doubles from sophomore Gabe MacDonald (Minneapolis, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) and senior Tom Druk (Plymouth, Minn./Orono), followed by an RBI single from junior Aaron Pfaff (New Ulm, Minn./Cathedral), gave the Johnnies the 3-0 lead.

SJU then broke the game open with six runs in the fourth inning. Larson, sophomore Logan Hershey (Maple Grove, Minn.) and MacDonald started the frame with singles, and Druk smacked a sacrifice fly. Pfaff followed with a single before Becker cleared the bases with a two-run triple. Junior Geno Larkin (Eden Prairie, Minn.) ended the Johnnies' scoring with an RBI single.

Junior southpaw John Schumer (St. Stephen, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) earned the win, allowing an unearned run on five hits with four strikeouts (no walks) in six innings of work. Freshman Alex Kendall (St. Cloud, Minn./Saint John's Prep) pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

Graves ended the day 5-for-7 with five RBI, while Becker (3-for-6) and Pfaff (3-for-8) combined to score nine of the team's 21 runs from the Nos. 1 and 2 spots in the lineup. SJU batted .444 (12-for-27) with runners in scoring position and .435 (10-for-23) with two outs in the doubleheader.

The Johnnies quarrel with Bluffton (Ohio) in a noon EST doubleheader on Thursday, March 6.
