The Johnnies (6-2-3, 4-1-1 MIAC) let a two-goal lead slip away but retaliated with two more to earn the victory and end a five-game losing streak at Augsburg Ice Arena.
Senior
Nick Vatnsdal (Independence, Minn.) gave SJU a 1-0 lead with 1:19 left in the first period. The goal, which was his second in as many games, was assisted by senior
John Haeg (Lakeville, Minn.) and sophomore
Dan McNamara (Grand Rapids, Mich.).
Junior
Neal Smith (Rogers, Minn.) tipped in the rebound of junior
Alex Ach's (Champlin, Minn.) initial shot 2:14 into the second period to give SJU a 2-0 lead. The goal was Smith's sixth of the season.
Mack Ohnsted cut the deficit in half for Augsburg (6-5, 3-1 MIAC) with a power-play goal 1:22 later and Corbin Chapman tied it at the 14:28 mark.
Freshman
Tyler Dunagan (Maple Grove, Minn.) gave the lead back to SJU with his fifth goal of the season two minutes later. Classmate
Huba Sekesi (Germering, Germany) and sophomore
Kevin Becker (Roseville, Minn.) tallied the assists.
McNamara padded SJU's lead with his second goal of the season 3:14 into the third period, with assists going to Haeg and Vatnsdal.
Junior
Saxton Soley (Elk Mound, Wis.) made 34 saves to improve to 5-2-3 (4-1-1 MIAC) on the season.
The Johnnies wrap up the 2014 portion of their schedule with a 7 p.m. road game at No. 5/8 Wisconsin-River Falls on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
